What to visit

  • Porto Cathedral

The most important religious monument in Porto and one of the most emblematic in Portugal. Although it began as a Romanesque church, over the centuries parts of the Baroque and Gothic style were added. It has a cloister and the esplanade in front of it is a viewpoint over the old part of the city.

  • Clérigos church and tower

You will find the best panoramic view of the city by climbing the more than 200 steps to the top of this tower. Baroque in style, the Torre de los Clérigos is the tallest in the country and during the ascent you will be able to see the 49 bells that make up the great carrion.

  • Ribeira

The Ribeira neighborhood is the most picturesque in Porto due to its colorful facades along the banks of the Douro. Here you will also find the Don Luis I Bridge, the most famous in the city and which connects with Vila Nova de Gaia, on the opposite bank of the river.

  • Bolhão Market

One of the most authentic places in Porto, Mercado do Bolhao maintains the essence of the city since its opening in 1914. Stroll among its flower, food and craft stalls or taste local cuisine in one of its traditional restaurants.

The best starting point to get to know Porto is the Avenida de los Aliados, where the City Hall is located, as well as a lot of modernist buildings. Walking along the avenue you will reach Liberty Square, which is the largest in Porto and where you can see an equestrian statue of King Pedro IV.

One of the things you cannot miss is the Sao Bento train station and its large hall decorated with more than 20,000 tiles with scenes that tell the history of Portugal.

If you want to photograph the best panoramic view of the city you should climb the tower of the Clérigos Church, it is worth climbing the more than 200 steps. You can't miss the Lello Bookstore either, especially if you are a Harry Potter fan.

As for means of transport, Porto is a very comfortable city to explore on foot, but even so, it has very good connections. The tram, without a doubt, has become a tourist attraction and you cannot leave Porto without traveling on one. In addition to the tram, there is the metro, funicular, bus and, of course, the taxi.

Porto has a varied gastronomy to taste during your stay in the city. Cod is one of the dishes that you will have to try on your next city break. It is served in many ways, such as scrambled with eggs and olives or in the form of fritters.

Discover this great city and let yourself be seduced by all its corners. Stay at the Catalonia Porto, a central hotel where you can start your tourist route on foot every day.
