If you are going to visit the city of canals soon, keep reading and discover all our recommendations so you don't miss anything about this beautiful city.

The city of Amsterdam emerged from a small fishing village. Quite a common fact because it is a city that developed on the seashore. In the 12th century, a dam (dam) was built over the Amstel River and this gave the town its name: Amsterdam. In the past, it was a very important city in terms of trade in favor of the port of Rotterdam. Today, Amsterdam is the intellectual center of the Netherlands.

The culture and atmosphere of Amsterdam is what makes it a unique city. Below, we propose different places that you cannot miss on your next visit to Amsterdam.

Start the day with a walk through Vondelpark. It is the most famous park in the city and the favorite of locals. There you can ride a bike, have a picnic outdoors or simply relax among nature. Afterwards, if you are a beer lover, you can't miss the Heineken Experience, an interactive exhibition about the evolution of the brand.

An important area of interest in the city is Dam Square. A square in which an obelisk stands in tribute to the Dutch soldiers who fell during the Second World War. As far as museums go, Amsterdam is a city rich in culture. You can't miss the Van Gogh Museum, where you will find more than 200 works by the Dutch painter. Neither does the Rijksmuseum, considered the best museum in Holland. Don't leave the city of canals without visiting the Flower Market, the favorite place for Amsterdammers to do their shopping. A gift that you can buy as a souvenir is the famous tulip bulb.

Although Amsterdam is not known for its gastronomy, you cannot miss trying typical dishes of the city such as patat, very common in street stalls. Cheeses (kaas) are very well known in Holland, the most famous being Edam and Gouda. If you visit the city in winter, a good hutspot will keep you warm. It is a beef stew with mashed potatoes and carrots. Erwtensoep, a pea soup very typical in Holland, is also very famous.

As for transportation in Amsterdam, the ideal is to explore the city on foot and get to know every corner. But it is also a good idea to take bike rides, the city's favorite transportation. For longer distances we recommend the tram, bus or metro. Amsterdam is perfectly connected, so you will have no problem getting around the city.

Discover this great city and let yourself be seduced by all its corners. Stay at the Catalonia Vondel Amsterdam, a centrally located hotel with all the comforts to make your stay an unforgettable experience.
